ACCREDITATION: LASCON HOSTS NBTE DELEGATES

The Management of Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando has hosted the delegates from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on a familiarisation tour aimed to assess and review the institution's nursing programme and facilities to ensure they align with national standards for nursing education.
Welcoming the delegates to LASCON for the assessment, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, reiterated the government’s strong commitment to enhancing the quality and reach of nursing education in Lagos State.
He highlighted the importance of producing highly skilled and competent nurses to meet the growing demands of the healthcare system.
Kasali further emphasised that the Lagos State Government is dedicated to supporting the accreditation process and has invested significantly in developing and maintaining the institution’s infrastructure.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Gbenga Abejide emphasised that the visit is a critical part of the Board’s mandate to oversee accreditation and quality assurance for technical and vocational institutions across the country.
The team later conducted a comprehensive review of the College’s National Diploma (ND) nursing programme, alongside a resource verification for its Higher National Diploma (HND) offerings. The review covered infrastructures, equipment, curriculum, and the overall quality of education provided by the institution.
The NBTE team also conducted an in-depth inspection of various facilities at the College, including the Skills Laboratories, Libraries, Nutrition Laboratory, ICT Centre, Entrepreneurship Centre, and Classrooms.
Additionally, meetings with the college’s management, Nurse Tutors, and students were held to discuss crucial matters such as tutors’ certification verification, quality assurance practices, and the ongoing development of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health programmes.
Dr. Ogunmuyiwa Ayodeji, the Provost of Lagos State College of Nursing, expressed gratitude to the NBTE team for their visit, stating that the feedback and guidance provided will further strengthen the college’s commitment to delivering top-notch nursing education.
“As one of the foremost nursing institutions in Lagos State, the college has earned a reputation for producing highly qualified nursing professionals. The accreditation visit represents an important step in ensuring that the college maintains its high standards while preparing students for the evolving healthcare challenges in the state and beyond”, she said
Representatives from the LASCON Governing Board and officials from the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) were also present at the briefing to observe and support the process.
