THE PROVOST MRS OYEFUNSO ORENUGA, MANAGEMENT STAFF AND STUDENTS WITH NANS JCC EXECUTIVES, LAGOS STATE DURING THE COURTESY VISIT AND OFFICIAL INTRODUCTION OF THE NEW LEADERSHIP OF COMRADE ALIMI IDRIS T

The Provost, Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Igando, Mrs. Oyefunso Orenuga has charged the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos State Chapter, to be accountable and transparent in the discharge of their duties to the Nigerian Student.

She gave the advice during the courtesy visit and formal introduction of the new leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students – Joint Campus Council (NANS – JCC) in Lagos State under the Chairmanship of Comrade Alimi Lekan Idris to the College on Wednesday.

The Provost implored the new executives to show examples of good leadership to the ones coming behind and to let the people who elected them know that this is the era to ensure that dialogue must always supersede unnecessary agitations.

Orenuga also implored the executives to embark on programmes that will uplift the standard of students in Lagos State as pacesetters and Nigeria as a whole. The team should set attainable goals and ensure adequate execution.

She further informed them that the Lagos State College of Nursing Student Government will be part of the Union in due course, noting that they are presently recognised under the umbrella of a Students Association not a Union due to the peculiarity of the Nursing Profession.

She added that the LASCON Students may not participate in some of the programmes especially when on Clinical posting as the Students must meet up with some hours in the clinic before they can be presented to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMCN) for their examination.

The Provost reiterated her support for the new executives, while she cautioned against excesses on the part of the NAN leadership.

The Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students, Lagos Axis, Comrade Alimi Lekan Idris expressed his appreciation for the Provost and the Management Team for the audience granted them.

He said his administration is saddled with the responsibility of articulating the interest of the Students and fostering unity and solidarity while aiming to provide a conducive academic environment and promote the welfare of Students in Lagos State.

Alimi also stated that the era of ‘Aluta Continua’ is gone and that his administration strongly believes in dialogue rather than aluta. He promised that his administration would not disappoint and by the grace of God, they would leave significant achievements at the end of their tenure.

The President, Lagos State College of Nursing Students Association (LASCONSA) Mr. Abdulrahman Biliamin thanked the Provost, the Management and the NANS executive. He expressed hope that the Student Association of the College would join the union soon.
